Before Garrinski had to time to address the Admiral one more time, someone came into view out of the corner of his eye. A man burning with passion or rather madness paced across the narrowly slanted deck in the direction of Lyod’s hovering form. It was Flashy.
“You must stop him and flee now. This Estagon man will kill him and all of your friends if you do not try to get away.” returned the familiar voice Garrinski had heard just minutes before.
“What?” Garrinski questioned.
“Your friend, as well as the admiral, seek only to validate their convictions by slaying all who might contradict those beliefs. They are ruled by their power, but unlike this admiral, your friend is vastly unaware of the strength of his foe.” said the voice.
*He’s not anywhere near me,* Garrinski thought to himself.
“Indeed I’m not. But I can clearly see you now, as well as them.” the voice came again.
*You can hear me think?!* exclaimed Garrinski in his own head.
Garrinski scanned the boat over frantically as quick as he could without letting his guard down to the man suspended in air before him. He spotted the Legacy to the north closing in on his position as well as a pirate ship to the northeast heading his way. Nowhere on the deck could a passenger be hidden away unless…
As soon as Garrinski thought up the only logical location of the stowaway man he received confirmation.
“Yes I am there, but that is not of the least bit of significance now. Your friends are now all coming to their deaths. If you can’t turn away and leave this place now, I will say there is not a doubt in my mind this Lyod will destroy you all.” the voice said.
Flashy was now in striking distance of the floating Lyod.
“You caused this mass murdering, and now I’ve come to collect your life as well as the sin it now carries.” Flashy hissed. Lyod’s face remained petrified, unmoved by the demonic looking man before him or his promised agenda. Flashy’s chain shot out from behind him and came within inches of Lyod’s face before it stopped completely.
“You might be different from your crewman over there ‘red one’, but your not even close to being an Immortal,” Lyod said. His hand was now directed at the position of Flashy’s chain and slowly he was raising it into the air, along with Flashy himself.
Flashy thrashed in rage and pain at the event taking place.
“I’m already a man cursed by his sins, why would I hope to be cursed with that unending burden forever as well?!” snarled Flashy, still struggling to gain control of his airborne body. Suddenly he felt it… like the soul being torn from his body, the chain that was lodged in his back was slowly being extracted.
“STOP IT!” Garrinski yelled at Lyod. The screams of his comrade became deafening. “Please person, whoever you are, tell me what the hell is going on…” Garrinski watched in horror as Flashy had the last of the metal protruding from back removed. Something odd took place after the bloodied body of Flashy fell back to the deck floor. Not only had his appearance gradually reverted back into that which was more similar to a man’s, but the chain that hovered in the air began to disappear.
“B-b-bastard…..D-damn,” is all Flashy could get out as he panted away on the passenger ship’s deck, just below Lyod’s hovering form. He looked back at Garrinski who was still watching the Admiral’s every move. “Remember…” Flashy rasped, trying to raise his voice against the sinking pressure his chest was enduring from the fatigued body on top of it, “you’ll come and see me one time.”
Garrinski heard these words, but he continued to do nothing. Poised to defend at any moment he waited for the Admiral’s next move.
“Another weakling in a world of mortals. My power exceeds even that of men with similar unique abilities, hence every one of my captains can only claim a title if they can last longer than one minute against my assault. I’m not foolish enough to give into the idea anyone could actually come to harm me, but even as an Immortal, appearances always seem to make the job a bit easier when intimidation can be used. And so I let these poor minded dogs follow me wherever I go.” Lyod said quite coldly. His silver eyes pierced into Garrinski’s now once more. “Tell me, would you be afraid of a band of pirates such as these?” Lyod motioned to the remainder of his crew, lined about the ship. “Or are you only afraid now of the godlike man before you?”
Garrinski closed his eyes and rested his staff at his side. He stood now relaxed.
“That’s what I thought.” Garrinski said.
“What’s that?” Lyod questioned.
“Just confirming with a friend, what I had figured from the start.” Garrinski replied.
“Well if those are indeed your friends coming on their way now, I won’t spare them the luxury of approaching me so recklessly.” Lyod said, turning to the Legacy which came within a few hundred yards of the passenger ship.
Garrinski looked back down at Flashy.
*He’s still breathing. Thank god,* Garrinski thought. Looking back at the floating man he began to speak once again.
“Your so called power is quite frightening indeed, but like all things that implant fear in us un this world. When you understand any type power a man possesses, it loses that which makes it so fearful. Stripped of the knowledge that barricades it, power is only a tool used be man to propagate false truths about his finite limitations. You sir, may be quite gifted, unbelievably so, but mark my words, there is no command without consequence.” Garrinski said.
“I’ll show you as well as the rest of these fools, that an Immortal‘s power is incomprehensable to any mortal man!” bellowed Lyod.
Nicholas, Crazy, and Sam were now in the water swimming the rest of the short distance to the passenger ship. Garrinski watched as Lyod began to raise his arms once again, but this time something was different. Every weapon, chain, and hook was starting to shake around and reach further and further into the air. The pirates let go of their metal tools and watched as the assortment of steel and iron collected above the deck. In one swift movement the rattling metals items were propelled at the three swimmers making their way to the ship’s side. Garrinski dashed to intercept the incoming projectiles as best he could, but the storm of shiny and rusted metal was too massive to repel completely. He wound up in the water with the rest of his companions as they slowly attempted to make their way back onto the boat.
Crazy and Sam had both been stricken by the projectiles and Sam only continued to add to the gory scene by having another relapse of his debilitating disease. After coughing up a small amount of blood Sam realized his swords were being taken out from their sheathes.
“Just what on earth is going on?” Sam said, wiping the last bit of blood from his mouth.
“Stay alive…that’s all I ask.” Garrinski said turning his attention back to Lyod. “This man is quite different from the rest.”
